The weekend is here; your friends are going out; you’ve been ‘good’ all week and you’re ready to let loose – again. Or maybe was vacation time and you ate ALL the delicious food that you possibly could without a care in the world. Hold on… What about that killer craving for your favorite cookies that you had last night? The one where you DROVE to the store to buy them and ate pretty much the whole box… Not pretty much, you did. Now you’re feeling guilty. Long story short – You’ve fallen off track!
What do you do now?! Give up? Because that’s seems easier than starting back at square one, right? Um… WRONG!
Give your head a shake! Stop what you’re doing, right then and there. Oh! and DROP THAT COOKIE! Yes; you may have over indulged and you’re frustrated about your lack of self control, but there is absolutely NO point in continuing in this downward spiral. I mean, you already feel terrible, it’s not even fun anymore! Remember how GOOD you feel when you are crushing your goals, working hard and making yourself proud?! You want to get back there, don’t you? Of course you do, otherwise you wouldn’t be reading this.
Sooo… How is this blog going to help you get back on track? Well since I can’t MAKE you do anything, this is just going to be your little wake up call. Its up to YOU to choose what you do with it.
First off; Stop running in circles like a damn chicken with its head cut off, put your foot down! If you have zero self control with your favorite snacks in the house, get them OUT! – and no I don’t mean eat them all so that they’re gone and you can start fresh. If you knowingly can’t control yourself, rid your house of temptation. Go grocery shopping for lots of healthy choices and vegetables, take the time to meal prep! If you are stumped for recipes to make delicious meals, let me introduce you to your new best friend “google” – that has THOUSANDS of recipes at your finger tips. There is a healthy option to every one of your favorite dishes. Volume is key if you find yourself frequently hungry.
Next up; GO TO THE GYM! I know. That sounds SO not fun right now… But you need to do it! You need to get your head back in the zone by beating yourself up a couple times. After 1-3 workouts and having your meals on track, you will feel so much better and you know it!
WHY and WHAT? Ask yourself WHY you started on this journey and WHAT are your goals?
Drink LOTS of water! Your bloated, you could be constipated, you just feel shitty! Drink your water. It will help flush everything out of your system and in a couple days bloating will dissipate.
DO NOT RESTRICT YOURSELF! DO NOT do hours of cardio! Yes, you slipped up and most likely ate a TON of carbs maybe even peanut butter, but restricting and overexerting yourself is not the answer to getting back on track. That will only feed an unhealthy cycle that is extremely difficult to end. If you restrict yourself from all carbs, you will feel deprived. What happens when you feel deprived? You cheat and fall off track. The best thing to do is to just jump right back on the band wagon, eat your regular meals, do your regular amount of cardio, have a high intensity sweaty workout and stay consistent with that.
DO NOT compare yourself and where you are in your fitness journey to others. I’m sure you have heard the saying “comparison is the thief of joy” before, because it really is. You are not the same as anyone else and you never will be. Take pride in being you, don’t compare someone’s step 5 to your step 3. Focus on YOU and becoming the best version of yourself, mentally and physically. People you idolize most likely only broadcast the highs in life and hide the lows. I bet you that they aren’t perfect on their diet either! They are human. There is absolutely no point in comparing.
Lastly, STOP living in the past. What’s done is done, you can’t change it. There is no use staying there miserable! Accept it and move on. Don’t stress about the future when it hasn’t even happened yet either. Focus on the NOW, live in the moment, and work hard right now to get to where you want to be. Every new day is a fresh start, a new opportunity to bring yourself one step closer then you were the day before. So focus on the next 60 seconds, and start making better choices here.
Remember, YOU are the only thing that is standing between where you are and where you want to be.
